Search help

You can combine all sections of the advanced search in one search query.

Example
Free text combined with chosen instrumentation.

Free text search
The easiest way to search is to write the key search items. They can be written in lower case or UPPER CASE – the search result will be the same. The results are shown in order of relevance, i.e. the item in the database that corresponds best to the search query will be shown first.

If you get too many hits, try narrowing your results using operators as follows:

Operator Search result
NOT Documents which do not include the words after NOT
AND Documents which include both words separated by AND
OR Documents which include either of the words separated by OR

Examples

If you write… …you will find documents including
cat AND dog AND fish all three words
cat OR dog OR fish at least one of the words
dog AND (cat OR fish) dog and cat; dog and fish
dog AND NOT (cat OR fish) dog, if they don’t include cat or fish

Truncation
Truncation replaces the beginning, the middle or the ending of a search word. This can be used, for instance, if you are not sure of the exact spelling of a word/name. * is used for truncation.

Right truncation peter* generates hits on Peterson, Petersson, Peters, etc.
Left truncation *cello generates hits on cello, violoncello, etc.
Middle truncation pet*on generates hits on Petersson, Pettersson, Peterzon, etc.

Search by category
Besides free text search you can choose to search by category. When the search category is chosen, write the search word in the adjacent search box.

Example
Category: Composer
Search string: Hillborg

Instrumentation
Specify the search queary by including or excluding instrumentation. Year of composition Specify the search query by choosing year(s) of composition.

Duration
